Today, Friday (April 26, 2024), Representative Muhammad Al-Dulaimi suggested that the selection of the Speaker of the House of Representatives will be decided during the next month of May, while indicating that all political consensus is moving towards choosing Salem Al-Issawi as Speaker of the Council.
Al-Dulaimi said in an interview with "Baghdad Today", "In all our meetings with the framework forces, the Kurds, and the rest of the other blocs, we call for the importance of accelerating the resolution of voting for a candidate for the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives, especially since we are before the most important legislative institution and the people are waiting for laws that serve and regulate the paths of life and guarantee rights." .
Al-Dulaimi added, "All political consensus is moving towards choosing Salem Al-Issawi as Speaker of the next House of Representatives, due to his experience, familiarity, and acceptability among the political forces and parties."
He pointed out that "next May will be decisive in proceeding with voting on a candidate for the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives, especially since the Iraqi situation cannot bear any delay and there are a series of important draft laws awaiting resolution and consensus to advance them."
It is noteworthy that the Al-Fatah Alliance confirmed yesterday, Thursday, that the Presidency of the House of Representatives will soon determine the session to elect the Speaker of the House, while confirming the orientation of the parliamentary majority with support for Salem Al-Issawi as Speaker of Parliament.
The representative of the coalition, Mukhtar Al-Musawi, told “Baghdad Al-Youm,” “There is discussion among a number of political parties in order to determine the session for electing the new speaker of parliament. There is an insistence on resolving this issue quickly because this delay has negatively affected the work of Parliament.”
Al-Moussawi stated, “The parliamentary majority is now in support of Salem Al-Issawi assuming the presidency of Parliament, and we do not believe there are any indications or observations about him. On the contrary, he is close to all the blocs and representatives, and we expect that he will be elected by a majority in the second round after the election date is set soon.”
The political scene is still awaiting the holding of the second round to elect the Speaker of Parliament, after the Federal Court ruled the validity of the first round and rejected the appeal, which resulted in the victory of Shaalan Al-Karim and Salem Al-Issawi, before Al-Karim withdrew from the candidacy as well as from the Taqadum Party, making Al-Issawi the most prominent candidate and awaiting a contract.
