President Donald Trump has expressed his aspiration to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong-un after the latter confirmed his readiness to meet at any time.
"I look forward to seeing President Kim, who is well aware that North Korea has enormous economic potential," Trump said in a tweet on his Twitter page.
Trump came after Kim's New Year speech, warning that his country would resort to an "alternative course" if US sanctions continued.
Kim said he was willing to "sit down again with the US president at any time," adding that he would "make efforts to produce a result that the international community would welcome."
Kim held a historic summit with Singapore's Trump in June last year, during which he announced his commitment to denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula.
