The Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee confirmed, today, Thursday, that Iraq has started to activate the contract to purchase the Russian S-300 air defense missile system about three months ago.
"The Iraqi army has air defenses with a maximum range of 20 km, and they are distributed over sovereign and important targets and forbidden areas in the country," Committee Chairman Mohamed Reda said in a press statement seen by "The Trend Press." Activating the contract concluded with Russia to arm frozen air defense, to supply Iraq with S-300 missiles with a range of 200 km, which is good for the geography of Iraq.
The Security and Defense Committee in Parliament had previously revealed the existence of Iraqi-Russian dialogues to buy the S-300 system from Moscow in order to contract for the Air Force weapons, military aviation or air defense.
