     Baghdad: Muhannad Abd al-Wahhab

In a gesture to bring about a change in the norm of the traditional political process since 2003, and by throwing a stone into the stagnant waters for a long time, the capital, Baghdad, witnessed yesterday, Wednesday, the birth of the first opposition parliamentary bloc, something that was not seen in previous parliamentary sessions, as all blocs are vying for positions in the formed governments. Among them, the bloc that “Al-Sabah” witnessed its birth at the Ishtar Sheraton Hotel includes the “Extension” movement, the “New Generation” movement and independent candidates. The head of the “Extension” movement, Dr. Alaa Al-Rikabi, told Al-Sabah: “The new alliance has a significant impact on changing the parliamentary work, and it is time for the foundations and approach of political work in the country to change, and we have confidence in the representatives of the new alliance that has seen the light today for the sake of the people.” To be a suitable political alternative for the next stage,” noting that “all files will be opened and priority will be given to the file of the killers of the demonstrators, as well as all laws and decisions that have caused harm to Iraqi society.” It is likely that the impact of the new bloc will be "resonant." He added, "We are witnessing the birth of the first real political opposition bloc in the House of Representatives," stressing, "We will not participate in the quota government, and the basic principle will be the formation of a real political opposition in order to consolidate democracy." He explained that "the coalition now includes 18 deputies from the New Generation and Extension movements, in addition to 10 independent deputies, bringing the number of the coalition to 28, and it is expected that a number of other independents will join," expressing his hope that "the coalition will reach 40 parliamentary seats."
For his part, a member of the New Generation Alliance, Omid Muhammad, told Al-Sabah: “Our new alliance is not bound by a specific ideology, because it is a civil political movement that believes in respect for the citizen, whether in the region, the center or the south, and we strive in various ways within the next parliament to be the citizen. It is the centerpiece of every decision, law or executive action
for the state.” The leaders of the "New Generation" movement, Sashwar Abdullah, and the "extension" movement, Alaa al-Rikabi, announced in a press conference yesterday afternoon, Wednesday in Baghdad, which was attended by "Al-Sabah", the birth of a new alliance from their movements and winning independent candidates. Abdul Wahed said: "We announce an alliance for the people, where no cake is divided, no positions are sold, and no lives are lost. It is an alliance of a homeland burdened with wounds and a project of a people aspiring to life." Abdel Wahed declared, "The coalition rejected all government positions and the temptations of power, adhered to the country's future and the people's interests, and proceeded with the formation of the national opposition."
