The Central Bank's campaigns, its pursuit of speculators and smugglers, and its monitoring of exchange rates through the electronic platform did not find an echo in the Iraqi street, not even among specialists who confirmed that smuggling and price manipulation operations are still continuing.

Deterrent measures were taken by the Central Bank some time ago by adopting the electronic platform to determine the exchange rate and track the source of funds through controls it legislated to limit smuggling operations. However, these measures were seen by economists as not contributing to solving the problem, but rather smuggling operations continued with them.

How did the security authorities handle smuggling operations?
