Investment enters the arms industry and discusses twinning with developed countries

In an unprecedented step since the founding of the modern Iraqi state, the government is moving to support the local equipment and weapons industry through investment, while the Parliamentary Finance Committee expressed support for national production at the expense of imported ones, calling for the necessity of supporting the national product and encouraging the completion of these projects to reach self-sufficiency.
The head of the Military Industrialization Authority, Engineer Mustafa Ati Hassan, said: “A number of factories are scheduled to open in the next few months.”
Hassan added, in an interview with Al-Sabah, “We own more than one factory for producing light equipment, and more than one factory for producing armor, and in the future we will be able to produce medium weapons,” explaining that “these projects are not funded centrally from the budget, but rather through investors, which is a government program.” Involving the private sector in arms production.
Hassan continued, “The process of selecting Iraqi investors includes certain specifications, while weapons and equipment are subject to quality and durability tests in the Ministries of Defense and Interior, in addition to National Security,” stressing that Iraqi factories “currently produce 9 mm equipment, Kalashnikov equipment, and the American M4 rifle, in addition to factories.” Mortar bombs of all sizes.
For his part, security expert Fadel Abu Ragheef called for the localization of the military industry and the search for “twinning the process” with advanced countries in this field.
Abu Ragheef said, in an interview with “Al-Sabah”: “Relying on national manufacturing raises the cognitive and technical level of the Iraqi engineer, contributes to saving expenses and hard currency, and reduces suspicions of corruption,” and called for “a twinning process with advanced countries such as Britain, Germany, America, and some countries of the camp.” The former socialist.
The security expert continued, "Iraq has entered into multiple wars for many years, and these wars have generated high experience in the military industry."
