The San Jose Sharks are a different team today.

Yesterday they waived California native Matt Nieto in hopes of sneaking him down to the Barracuda. Today we learned that Nieto has been claimed by the Colorado Avalanche.

It's obvious the Sharks brass expected more offensively from Nieto following a promising start to his NHL career. But when your team is struggling to score goals and you have a player like Nieto taking up roster space and providing ZERO offensively (2 assists) than somethings got to give.

The Sharks have recalled Tim Heed from the Barracuda. Heed will become the fifth  different Shark to make his NHL debut this season joining, Timo Meier, Kevin Labanc, Aaron Dell and Danny O’Regan.

Heed may provide some of that offensive punch San Jose has been missing. Through 27 games in the AHL this season Heed has 30 points  (9g 21a).

The loss of Nieto could be the to be the first of several changes to come for the Sharks. This has to be an all.or nothing season for a rapidly aging Sharks Corp.

Injuries and back-to-back lackluster losses to the hated LA Kings showcased an offensive futility not worthy of a Stanley Cup contender. Doug Wilson cannot be pleased.

    Stay tuned...

    Thanks for reading,
    Steve
