The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has voted to approve a resolution stating that Israel is not to rule over the occupied city of Jerusalem, media reports said.
According to Palestinian media, the organization voted by a majority of 22 votes to 10 in favor of the decision to consider Jerusalem an occupied city.
The draft resolution affirms that "Israel" occupies Jerusalem and has no right in the Old City. It also includes the recognition that the graves in the city of Hebron and Rachel's Tomb in Bethlehem are Islamic tombs.
A source at the Foreign Ministry confirmed in a statement to Graassa that Jordan and Palestine prepared a draft resolution for UNESCO to recognize the lack of connection of the Jewish people to Jerusalem.
The source added that Jordan prepared a draft resolution and submitted it jointly with Palestine through the Arab Group in the Executive Council of UNESCO, noting that the draft resolution will be presented on 2-5-2017 during the meeting of the Executive Council of the Organization.
