[ltr]US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Egyptian Sameh Shukri agreed on the need to reach a permanent agreement between Israelis and Palestinians.[/ltr]
[ltr]Tillerson told a news conference in Cairo on Monday that the decision on Jerusalem was "taken by both sides," adding that Washington "remains committed to reaching a permanent agreement between Israel and the Palestinians."[/ltr]
[ltr]"During the meeting with Tillerson, we stressed the importance of reaching a solution to the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solution and the importance of consistency with international legitimacy in relation to the conflict," Shukri told the press conference.[/ltr]
[ltr]The United States provoked a wave of anger and criticism when it announced weeks ago its recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and its intention to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.[/ltr]
[ltr]Tilerson addressed some of the region's issues, noting that "the political settlement is the only solution in Syria."[/ltr]
[ltr]The US Secretary of State also expressed Washington's support for holding credible elections in Libya[/ltr]
