[ltr]The speaker of the House of Representatives, Salim al-Jubouri, called on Thursday for an urgent Arab and Islamic meeting to discuss the decision to consider Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.[/ltr]
[ltr]"The decision by the US administration to transfer the US embassy to Jerusalem is hampering diplomatic efforts towards security and stability in the region," Jubouri said in a statement. "The decision undermines the efforts of the two-state solution."[/ltr]
[ltr]He called on Arab and Islamic countries to "hold an urgent meeting to take a unified position towards this serious crisis," adding that "the region does not need a new crisis and the US administration to reconsider this decision in the interest of world peace."[/ltr]
[ltr]On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump signed a resolution recognizing the city of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, pointing out that this move is in the interest of the United States and peace efforts between Israelis and Palestinians.[/ltr]
