British firefighters evacuated hundreds of residents of Craven Street earlier this morning for a "big" gas leak.
"Some 1,450 people have been evacuated from a nearby hotel and club," the fire brigade said, adding that firefighters were helping the police at the main gas line where the leak had occurred.
Firefighters have revealed high levels of natural gas in the area.
The main Strland road leading to London was closed, and the main railway station in the area was closed.
