[ltr]WASHINGTON (Reuters) - US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that his predecessors in the United States had authorized the release of hundreds of terrorists, including a leader of a terrorist organization, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.[/ltr]
[ltr]"His predecessors have inadvertently allowed the release of hundreds of dangerous terrorists, including a leader of an organization calling on terrorist Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi," Trump said in his State of the Union address to Congress and his Mawazine News.[/ltr]
[ltr]"We have in the past released blindfolded hundreds of dangerous terrorists to meet them again on the battlefield, including a leader who preaches Baghdadi," he said.[/ltr]
[ltr]"He canceled his predecessor Barack Obama's order to close Guantanamo Bay in Cuba on Tuesday and specifically instructed his defense secretary, James Matisse, to review US military detention policy and to keep detention facilities at Guantánamo Bay."[/ltr]
[ltr]He stressed that "the need to eliminate terrorists, arrest and interrogate them when needed," noting that "the terrorists are not criminals only, but combatants and enemies are illegal."[/ltr]
[ltr]"They should be treated like terrorists because they are," he said. He called on Congress to "pass laws allowing Washington to fight a terrorist organization and al Qaeda to obtain all the rights necessary to arrest terrorists anywhere in Washington."[/ltr]
