Japan plans to buy at least 20 additional F-35 stealth fighters over the next six years, official sources said Wednesday.
Japan may buy some or all of these fighters from Lockheed Martin in the United States directly, instead of assembling them locally, Sky said in a news story.
"Buying the entire aircraft from the United States for about $ 100 million per plane will save Japan about $ 30 million for each airframe," the sources said.
Japan has ordered the purchase of 42 of these fighter jets, most of which are manufactured in the factory "for final assembly and examination" in Japan, which is managed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. Ending / 25 z
