[ltr]Cuba's First Vice-President Miguel Diaz Canel was elected President of the Council of State, replacing Raul Castro.[/ltr]
[ltr]In the course of the National Assembly session, 603 of the 604 deputies voted for the election of Diaz Canel. According to the Constitution of Cuba, the President of the Council of State is the President and the Government of the Republic. He is elected for 5 years.[/ltr]
[ltr]Vice-President Salvador Valdés Misa, 72, was elected as first deputy chairman of the council.[/ltr]
[ltr]Miguel Diaz Canel was sworn in as president of the Cuban Revolution and stressed in a speech to the National Assembly his commitment to the continuity of the revolution.
