UN: Chemical production facilities in Syria will be destroyed within weeks

The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterich, expects that all remaining chemical weapons production facilities announced in Syria will be fully and definitively destroyed in the coming weeks.
In a letter to members of the UN Security Council, accompanied by the 55th monthly report of the Director-General of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), Ahmed Ouzmjo, on the progress made in eliminating the Syrian chemical program, Guterich warned that the failure of the Security Council to identify those responsible for the use of weapons Chemical weapons in Syria "disappoint the victims," stressing that "impunity can not prevail."
Regarding information on the chemical weapons program in Syria, Guterich said, "Unfortunately, there are still unresolved questions, and the continuing lack of capacity to resolve these outstanding issues remains a source of serious concern."
The fact-finding mission of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) continues to study all available information on the alarming allegations of the use of chemical weapons in Duma.
"A fact-finding mission was dispatched to Syria to visit the relevant sites in Douma on April 21. The mission visited one of the sites. During the visit, the team collected samples and returned to Damascus," he said.
The UN Security Council is scheduled to hold a special session next Monday to discuss the Secretary-General's message and the 55th report of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).
