A number of people died on Tuesday as a result of Israeli raids on several positions of Hezbollah guerrillas in the Homs countryside near the Lebanese border.

Activists said one of the leaders of the group supporting Bashar al-Assad was among the dead, pointing out that the strikes destroyed a coordination center for operations near the Syrian-Lebanese border and the outbreak of large-scale fires in the area.

In recent weeks, Israel has carried out raids on positions of the regime and Iranian forces and militias, resulting in the deaths and injuries and destruction of the headquarters and weapons stores, near the capital Damascus, Badia, Homs and the border with Lebanon.

Israel has repeatedly declared its rejection of the presence of Iranian troops in Syria, which has been witnessing a bloody conflict since 2011, as reiterated by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday.

"Our position on Syria is clear ... we believe that there is no room for any Iranian military presence anywhere in Syria," Netanyahu told his parliamentary bloc in remarks broadcast on Israeli television.
