The head of Iran's "Defensive Defense Organization," Gholamreza Jalali, accused Israel and another country, which he did not name, of stealing the clouds of Iran, which led to climate change and drought in the country.
"Iran's climate changes are unnatural and result from foreign interference," the Iranian news agency ISNA quoted Jalali, who is a military commander of Iran's Revolutionary Guards, as saying on Monday.
Jalali added: "Joint teams from Israel and another country, working to make the clouds entering Iran is not rainy In addition to this, we face the theft of clouds and snow as well."
"According to the studies covering Afghanistan's highlands to the Mediterranean Sea, we see that all the highlands that cross 2,200 meters are snow-covered but our highlands are dry," Jalali said.
The statement comes after protests erupted in southwestern Iran, specifically in the cities of Muhammarah and Abadan, because of pollution and water scarcity, where protesters accuse the authorities of mismanagement and the transfer of water from their region to other areas.
The protests saw violence as security forces suppressed protesters and gunfire was heard, resulting in injuries and arrests of dozens of activists. While some reports in social media sites of the death of a number of protesters, Iranian Interior Minister Abdul Rida Rahmani Fadhli denied the news, stressing that no one was killed by the protests.
It is not the first time this year that there have been # protests against the scarcity of water. Several months ago farmers in Isfahan came out protesting the water shortage in their province.
