Oil Minister Jabbar al-Allaibi said that the ministry is keen to provide employment opportunities for the people of Basra province, especially the cities located near the oil fields.

"We instructed the management of West Qurna / 2 Field Company to direct and oblige the secondary contracting companies in the West Qurna / 2 field to provide additional employment opportunities for the residents of Medina, Shatt al-Arab and others. Otherwise, the ministry will take appropriate measures against the companies violating the directive," he said in a statement.

"The ministry is working to improve the services provided to the people of these cities in cooperation with international companies through the implementation of a number of projects in the sectors of health and education and road coverings and the construction of bridges and irrigation channels for farms, as well as issuing instructions on agricultural coexistence alongside oil.
