    The Israeli army announced on Tuesday that it had bombed a Syrian Sukhoi aircraft after penetrating Israeli airspace, while the Syrian regime said that Israel targeted the aircraft while "the terrorist groups in the Sidon area on the outskirts of the Yarmouk Valley were stifled in the Syrian airspace. The official SANA news agency reported.

    The Israeli army pointed out that the plane, which was under surveillance, penetrated Israeli airspace two kilometers deep, when Patriot battery fired two missiles to intercept, before falling inside the Syrian border.

    On the other hand, SANA quoted a Syrian military source as saying that the plane had been shot down while the "terrorist groups" had been hit in the Sidon area on the outskirts of the Yarmouk valley in Syrian airspace.

    The Israeli army said it had observed a military escalation within the Syrian border with Israel and a marked increase in Syrian air force traffic.

    Tensions have increased over the last few weeks on the Syrian-Israeli border after the Syrian regime, backed by Russia, launched a military campaign to restore areas controlled by the opposition in the south and southwest of the country.
