Iraq seeks a long-term agreement with Turkey on water

Minister of Water Resources Hasan al-Janabi stressed the need to reach a long-term agreement with the Turkish side on water, pointing out to work to provide 10 billion cubic meters annually.
"We have reservations and objections to the Alesso Dam still exist," Janabi said in a televised interview.
He added that "Iraq as an estuary is under pressure from neighboring countries," noting that "our water resources have become one-third of what it was in 2014."
"The provinces of the south suffer from lack of water because they are located at the last point of the river," he said, noting that "there is a provincial council met and decided not to abide by the decisions and plans of the Ministry of Water Resources."
"The rationalization of consumption is the main factor for controlling and providing water," al-Janabi said.
