Human Rights Watch: Spread of Sexual Violence in North Korea

Human Rights Watch: Spread of Sexual Violence in North Korea NB-251595-636767413719694322

, said the organization Human Rights Watch , in a report yesterday Alkhma, as the sexual abuse carried out by officials of power sites in North Korea " is rampant."

Investigators from the organization interviewed more than 60 North Koreans who had left the country. They described sexual abuse and violence as "so common that they were accepted into normal life."

One of the organization's investigators said that testimonies from interviewers portray sexual abuse, including rape, so widely that many of the women interviewed did not realize that forced sex should not happen almost daily.

The collection of information on what is happening in North Korea is extremely difficult, and Human Rights has acknowledged that its survey is very limited and is not suitable for a generalized sample.

ME is pressing for an end to sexual abuse around the world, but Human Rights Executive Kenneth Roth said there has been little progress in North Korea, despite economic reforms there.

"This is not a threat to the regime," Roth said. "That's why the government's lack of action to prevent sexual abuse by officials is appalling."
