"The decision to open the Green Zone by the central government will not be affected by the pressure exerted by the American embassy and its refusal to open the area to traffic," MP Ali al-Abudi said on Friday.
"The Ministry of the Interior bears responsibility for protecting the Green Zone and its institutions and embassies," Abboudi said in a statement.
"The US embassy does not have the right to intervene in the issue of the green opening of the closure, where the prime minister decided to open green in front of traffic away from any pressure."
"The refusal or acceptance of the US embassy to open the Green Zone will not change the government's decision to open this area after it was closed for 15 years," he said. End 25 n
