Legal expert Ali Al-Tamimi confirmed today, Tuesday, that Prime Minister Adel [url=https://www.thebaghdadpost.com/ar/Story/t/82334/%D8%B9%D8%A8%D8%AF %D8%A7%D9%84%D9%85%D9%87%D8%AF%D9%8A][size=13]Abdul Mahdi[/url] cannot cancel the agreement with the United States of America and withdraw its forces from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] as he is resigning and head of the caretaker government.
Al-Tamimi said in a press statement, "The first agreement between [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and America in 2008 regarding the departure of American forces in [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] no later than 1.1.2011 and was implemented ... and organized by Law 51 for the same year."
He added that "the second agreement was in 2008 with a strategic framework, and it is for cooperation in all fields. Article 24, paragraph 4 permits the removal of American forces from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] whenever the Iraqi government wants."
Al-Tamimi added: “In 2014, the coalition forces were formed in accordance with Security Council Resolution 2170, led by America ... and at the request of [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] .”
He pointed out that "we must differentiate between the presence of these forces that [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] can ask to leave and the agreement that has nothing to do with this presence," noting that "Abdul-Mahdi cannot remove these forces because he is resigned and is conducting business."
