, the decision of the Integrity Committee in the House of Representatives Abdul Amir al-Mayahi revealed on Sunday the reasons for the delay in recovering Iraqi funds, while pointing to challenges facing the work of the oversight bodies.
Al-Mayahi said in a statement reported by the Iraqi News Agency, and seen by Mawazine News, "There is corruption in the file of recovering Iraqi money abroad, especially the money of the corrupt or even the money of the previous regime," noting that "bribery is paid to prevent the recovery of these funds."
He pointed out that "there is a weakness in the management of the money recovery department in the Integrity Commission, in terms of follow-up or seriousness in the work, whether those stolen by the current corrupt, or the cronies of the previous regime," stressing that "there is an amendment to the laws of the Integrity Commission and graft, by granting rewards 10% for those who report or return the funds voluntarily, but have not yet done so.
He pointed out that "the failure of some countries to hand over wanted persons to the Iraqi judiciary through Interpol, due to the failure of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as several parties, responsible for poor coordination and the lack of agreements to exchange wanted persons."
