On Sunday (April 4, 2021), an MP for the Al-Sadiqoun Parliamentary Bloc, Fadel Al-Fatlawi, warned of the continued high poverty rates in the country, while he described the decision to fix the dollar exchange rate as an "improvised" decision that was not properly studied.
Al-Fatlawi said in a statement received by  IQ NEWS , "The exchange rate of the dollar has caused great material damage to the citizen's living condition, and this represents an impromptu decision that was not properly studied."
"Determining the exchange rate in the budget was not appropriate for the poor segments, as there are more than 10 million Iraqi citizens below the poverty line, according to the data and statistics of the Ministry of Planning," he added.
Al-Fatlawi pointed out, "The government is required to find solutions that will save the citizen and ensure that the difficult living situation he is going through will not be harmed, especially with the high rate of unemployment and poverty, which necessitates radical changes that will benefit the people."
On Saturday (December 19, 2020), Finance Minister Ali Allawi announced the agreement with the Central Bank of Iraq to raise the exchange rate of the US dollar to 1450 dinars against one dollar.
