Diplomatic sources in New York announced that the UN Security Council will hold a public session next Sunday to discuss the escalation of violence between Israelis and Palestinians after reaching a compromise over US objections to Friday’s meeting.

Diplomats said the United States initially suggested the possibility of holding a hypothetical public meeting on Tuesday before a mediating date is set for next Sunday.
This, and the Security Council met twice this week in closed sessions on the worst hostilities in years, but has not yet been able to issue a general statement.
