{Local: Al Furat News} The Holy Husseiniya shrine warned against continuing to neglect the national industry and relying on the rentier economy, and the loss of 80 percent of the country's budget due to import, while stressing that this leads to an escalation of poverty and an increase in unemployment problems.

The Federation of Iraqi Industries had recently revealed that there are 54,000 projects registered in the union, as well as 21,000 projects with the Industrial Development Directorate, 90 percent of which are suspended due to the lack of competitiveness and the lack of a safe business environment.
The Deputy Secretary-General of the Holy Shrine, Afzal Al-Shami, said in a press interview, "The country is theoretically one of the richest countries in the world due to its possession of the fifth oil reserves in the world and the second among the Arab countries, but it suffers from unemployment problems at this stage and a dangerous rise in the poverty line."
He added that "Iraq wastes 80 percent of its budget on imports, whether agricultural or industrial, which shows the lack of planning in this aspect."
Al-Shami noted that "the threshold is working to develop the various sectors that provide services to citizens and contribute effectively to providing hard currency, employing thousands of manpower and moving the wheel of the economy, and it has in this aspect more than 200 projects."
He attributed "the lack of local production of simple consumer goods produced in most neighboring countries, including countries that suffer greater problems than Iraq, to the lack of strategic planning in the development of industries, in addition to the presence of a scourge of corruption that hit the joints of the state."
The Central Bureau of Statistics announced that the number of companies affiliated with the Ministry of Industry and Minerals amounted to 44, while the number of its affiliated laboratories reached 252, and indicated that the percentage of suspended laboratories amounted to more than a third, at 38.5 percent.
Al-Shami called "governmental and academic institutions to develop successful solutions, pay attention to industry, allow capital to work, establish an industrial base, and get rid of dependence on the rentier economy."
He cautioned that "the world is gradually moving to rely on alternative energy, which necessitates the Ministry of Industry to take its role and restore its health, move the wheel of its factories, employ thousands of the unemployed, and save families from poverty."
