A deputy in the House of Representatives revealed, on Saturday, corruption in the employment of foreign workers in Iraq.
Representative Hussein Al-Aqabi said, "There is a serious imbalance in the successive governments to solve the issue of unemployment, especially that the poverty rate reaches 30%, corresponding to an approximately unemployment rate, and while we commend some steps of the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, we find that they are not sufficient, because we are talking today about foreign workers." The high unemployment rate in Iraq is offset by a high unemployment rate,” he said, noting that “in Karbala refinery only, we have 16,000 foreign workers, which is more than 80% of the volume of employment in the refinery.”
He added, "There is corruption and an organized methodology in the employment of the foreign worker," noting that "resolving this issue is not the responsibility of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs only, but it is also the responsibility of the other concerned ministries and the responsibility of the Minister of Interior as well."
And the Minister of Labor called for "discussing the issue of unemployment and foreign labor within the Council of Ministers, because the government must have a clear strategy to put an end to the looting of the youth's capabilities in light of the lack of appointments since 2015 due to slack in the administrative apparatus in the Iraqi state."
Al-Uqabi stressed that "reducing unemployment and providing job opportunities remains the government's responsibility, and it is a strategic responsibility for the government to have a clear and specific plan, but unfortunately it does not exist for us."
He continued, "The strategic issues that touch the heart of our social reality, we do not have a plan or a vision for them, so we are shackled to the Minister of Labor with them, and we have seen some of his positive measures, but we hope that this file will be among his priorities within the Council of Ministers and embarrassing other ministries, since the responsibility is collective for public policy For the Iraqi state, this file is not only the responsibility of a particular minister, but is part of the responsibility of the Council of Ministers according to a political system called a parliamentary system for the state.” Ended 29/A43
