The adviser to the Iranian Minister of Energy, Muhammad Ali Farahnakian, revealed, on Sunday (2 January 2021), that half of the studies related to the electricity connection between Iran, Russia and Azerbaijan have been completed, while referring to the possibility of "energy exchange" with several countries, including Iraq, through this project. .

"According to the plan, after sending the specialized reports from the three countries to the Iranian consultant for the project, the implementation process of the project will start in April 2022, and half of the studies related to it have been completed," Farahnakian said in statements followed by IQ News.

He added, "The energy corridor in northern Iran will enjoy great advantages, and the project will be able to significantly reduce the need to invest in the country's electricity sector," noting that "another advantage of connecting these networks is to greatly support the stability of the network."

The Iranian official added, "The peak of electricity consumption in Russia is the winter season, while the peak in Iran is the summer, and here the surplus of electricity can be exchanged in summer and winter according to the needs of each country."

He explained, "We have two electrical connections with Russia, one through Azerbaijan and the other through Armenia and Georgia, and there is no difference between them except the speed of readiness, and Azerbaijan has taken the initiative in this area and has taken good steps," adding that "all three countries will pay the costs equally."

An advisor to the Iranian Energy Minister said: Electricity can also be exchanged with Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkey and Iraq.
