, Minister of Water Resources, Engineer Mahdi Rashid Al-Hamdani, participated in the second joint meeting of Arab Ministers of Agriculture and Water via closed circuit television.
During the meeting, which was attended by the Administrative Undersecretary of the Ministry, they discussed the implementation plan of the Cairo Declaration, which was approved at the first meeting of the Arab Ministers of Agriculture and Water in 2019, and the guidelines for the use of non-traditional water resources for agriculture in the Arab region.
At the beginning of the meeting, Al-Hamdani gave a speech in which he thanked the organizers of the meeting, given that Iraq is in dire need of the Arab League’s support for the Ministry’s efforts to confront climate changes facing the region in general through rational and unconventional water management in agriculture, and the Ministry devoted its efforts to gradually shift from open irrigation to closed irrigation using pipes and pumps. To transfer water and distribute it on agricultural lands fairly, away from water wastage, in addition to using modern mechanization in irrigation and drip irrigation.
Iraq also has a strategic study of water and soil resources that has been prepared until 2035 and is considered a road map to confront climate changes in light of water scarcity, lack of water imports and lack of rainfall.
The meeting was attended by members of the ministerial committee formed from the ministries of water resources and agriculture, and a number of experts and specialists.
