     Baghdad: Abdul Rahman Ibrahim

These days, an “economic battle” is taking place, led by the House of Representatives, to confront currency smuggling and limit the rise in the dollar exchange rate, as well as stopping the control of some banks in the Central Bank auction.
These urgent steps, initiated by Parliament, came within the proposals put forward by the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, to control the dollar's exchange rate and limit the negative repercussions of raising its value.
And based on Al-Sadr’s proposals, the Presidency of Parliament decided to summon Minister of Finance Ali Allawi, and Governor of the Central Bank, Mustafa Ghaleb, to discuss the financial decisions taken in the previous period.
Yesterday, Saturday, the House of Representatives held a meeting in the Constitutional Hall headed by the First Deputy Speaker Hakim Al-Zamili, attended by Central Bank Governor Mustafa Ghaleb, while Finance Minister Ali Allawi boycotted him, who sent a message to Parliament in which he said: “I would like to inform that I am unable to attend the meeting, and I will submit an official request.” To the House of Representatives to hold a session for a vote of confidence, and I will always be ready and cooperating.”
Al-Zamili began the session by asking the Public Prosecution to take the necessary legal measures in order to prevent the travel of Minister of Finance Ali Abdul Amir Allawi, “because there are a number of files against him and until the issue of his accountability is resolved,” blaming the Ministry of Interior and the intelligence service responsible in the event he leaves the country.
Al-Zamili promised Allawi's failure to attend Parliament as a "dangerous precedent," noting that the presidency and members of the House of Representatives are legally, morally and legally responsible for defending the rights of the people, as they are representatives of it.
