After the Erbil attack, the Iraqi parliament calls on the military institution to preserve the security of the country and prevent threats
Shafaq News/ The First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hakim Al-Zamili, called on Sunday, the security and military institution to preserve the security of the country and prevent internal and external threats, aimed at striking Iraq's sovereignty and interests.
This comes after a missile attack targeting the city of Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region, last night, amid major local and international political condemnation.
Al-Zamili's office said in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency, "The latter conducted a visit to the headquarters of the Ministry of Defense, during which he met Defense Minister Juma'a Inad and Chief of Staff of the Army, Lieutenant-General Abdul Amir Yarallah, and called on the security and military establishment to preserve the country's security and prevent all forms of internal and external threats." Which aims to strike Iraq's sovereignty and interests, and threaten the future and lives of Iraqis."
He pointed out, "The House of Representatives will support the legislation of the Ministry of Defense law that defines the tasks and duties of this important ministry that is concerned with preserving the homeland, its children, and its sanctities."
During the two separate meetings, the First Deputy Speaker discussed the importance of approving the alternative system to do justice to a large segment of officers and military ranks, noting that “the House of Representatives is strongly supportive of the work of the Ministry of Defense and will allocate in the next budget everything the ministry needs in terms of armament, equipment and training to enhance its role in the next stage.” ".
They also "discussed important positions in the ministry and the need to be in accordance with standards of integrity and professional competence, and to stay away from partisan and factional influences in this matter."
