Electricity refuses to hold it responsible for the decline in processing hours: We are not negligent
The Ministry of Electricity refused to hold it responsible for the decline in processing hours, attributing it to Iranian gas supplies and non-payment of its previous dues, and talked about its success in increasing its infrastructure by 720%.
The electrical system has been suffering for two weeks from a clear decline in processing hours, in conjunction with rising temperatures, and this has generated great anger in the Iraqi street.
The ministry's spokesman, Ahmed Moussa, said that "all the ministers of electricity succeeded in performing their duties, whether in terms of generating, transmitting and distributing electric power, in reference to the rise in production from 3,400 megawatts in 2003 and talk of 24 to 25 thousand megawatts."
Moussa added, "These quantities did not keep pace with the citizens' needs, and this is true in view of the increase in demand and after converting agricultural and slum areas into residential areas, in addition to the system being destroyed by terrorist organizations in some areas."
He pointed out that “providing the service to citizens needs a set of elements, factors and supporting efforts to be completed, and therefore there are duties on the ministry to confront it with elements in order to succeed in its tasks.”
And Moussa indicated, "The ministry is not to blame, because it keeps pace with the increase in service," stressing that "the electricity is one of the most ministries whose production and infrastructure have increased by 720% compared to the rest of the ministries."
He explained, "Iraq had 6,000 km of transmission lines in 2003, and today it has become 28,000 km," noting that "over the past years, the ministry has attached great importance to production and will not pay attention to certain details represented in dismantling transmission lines, discharging loads and strengthening the sector. Distribution and rehabilitation in a manner appropriate to the situation.
Moussa acknowledged, “there is some negligence and mismanagement in certain details, but this does not mean that the ministry did not work to develop its infrastructure, but rather that it worked strongly and according to data, taking into account weak capabilities, declining budgets and terrorism that affected infrastructure.”
He stated, "The work data began until a week ago, when the processing hours decreased, and the ministry's preparations were early, with an increase in capacities, the maintenance of networks, and a periodic and emergency examination of all transmission lines."
Moussa noted that "the volume of debts owed by the Ministry of Electricity represents the value of Iranian gas for the year 2020, amounting to more than 1.6 billion dollars," stressing that "Iraq has stations that need gas to operate, and as a result of the inadequacy of the national fuel plan, the Iranian side was resorted to."
And he added, "Iranian gas supplies were about 35 thousand million cubic meters, and an agreement was reached that we will reach 45 million cubic meters at the present time, provided that we pay the previous debts."
Moussa pointed out that "Iraq was unable to pay the previous debts due to the disruption of the passage of the emergency support law for food security, and this made the Iranian side not raise the ceiling of supplies according to the agreement concluded between the two parties, but rather reduced it to 30 million cubic meters."
And he talks about "there is an Iranian understanding that Iraq is serious about paying the previous debts, as soon as the legal framework through which the payment can be made is provided."
Moussa concluded, “It is important for the Parliament to hurry, and the Ministry of Electricity had promised the Iraqis to pass the law, otherwise the ministry will resort to obtaining an advance from the government in order to pay those dues.”
Earlier in the summer, better than in previous years, but it depended on the provision of the fuel plan and the necessary funds for maintenance.
