Shafaq News / The independent deputy, Sajjad Salem, called on today, Thursday, Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi and the Iraqi judiciary to isolate and take judicial measures against the head of the Popular Mobilization Authority, Faleh Al-Fayyad, after the recent campaign of arrests in Al-Diwaniyah Governorate, while indicating that these arrests represent a "flagrant violation" of the law.
The independent deputy said in a post on his Facebook page, followed by Shafak News Agency, that "the Popular Mobilization Authority is not an investigative authority under Iraqi laws, and Faleh al-Fayyad must be dismissed for violating the law and lacking his independence."
Salem added that "the recent campaign of arrests by the Popular Mobilization Authority represents a flagrant violation of the law that must be addressed, especially after it was ascertained that this campaign in Al-Qadisiyah Governorate was threatened by activists and protesters," noting that "there is no legal text that grants the Popular Mobilization Authority the authority of judicial investigation and even Special laws, which are both the Diwani Order No. (91) for the year (2016) and the Popular Mobilization Authority Law No. (40) for the year (2016).
The independent representative added that "the commission and its leaders are not granted the status of (members of the judicial police) charged with investigating crimes and accepting reports and complaints, which were specified in Article (39) of the Code of Criminal Procedure No. (23) for the year (1971), noting that "the complete silence on these Legal violations are tantamount to authorizing certain political parties to free their hand in tampering with people’s destinies, targeting them and suppressing freedom of opinion.”
The Independent Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces called for "the dismissal of Faleh al-Fayyad from his position," and called on the Public Prosecution to "take the necessary legal measures against him."
A few days ago, the Popular Mobilization Authority announced the arrest of a group that it claimed was Baathist, including a university professor, and was planning actions targeting the country's security, without giving more details about how to reach this group.
