The Legal Committee confirmed, on Saturday, that the priorities of the government and Parliament for the current session are the adoption of two new laws for the House of Representatives and the provincial councils, noting that the activation of Article (72) and after the interpretation of the Federal Court in the next session or the coming sessions cannot be overridden as happened in this session.
Member of the Committee, Representative Basem Khashan, said in a press statement, "The most important work of the new government and parliament is to resolve the laws of the House of Representatives and the provincial councils, because these two laws have a significant impact on the stability of the political process."
Khashan added, "The amendment of a new endorsement of the two laws must be the last and be specified in a paragraph within the two laws so that political forces are not allowed to pass a new law in each session and in proportion to the interests of the traditional parties."
He explained, "The political situation that we witnessed recently with regard to Article (72) related to the election of the President of the Republic should not be repeated, especially since the Federal Court has interpreted the constitutional forms for it, and therefore the failure to implement it within a period of (30) days considers Parliament dissolved and early elections are held."
The ministerial curriculum of the new Prime Minister Muhammad Shia'a al-Sudani's government included amending the House of Representatives elections law within a period of 3 months and holding early elections within a year.
