    Shafaq News/ The Minister of Trade, Atheer Al-Ghurairy reassured, today, Friday, that foodstuffs will be secured for the Iraqis during the year 2023.
    This came during his direct supervision of the unloading of rice, which is equipped within the ration card items. He also supervised the unloading of a ship loaded with 50,000 tons of wheat, which arrived at the southern ports in Basra Governorate, in the far south of Iraq, within the contracts of the Ministry of Commerce.
    Al-Ghurairy said, "The Ministry of Commerce has contracted to purchase 750 thousand tons of wheat material for the purpose of meeting the country's need for the first months of next year until the start of the marketing season for the wheat crop, in addition to that it will also contract for other quantities of wheat material, while it is now developing a plan to supervise On the marketing season for the wheat crop, in implementation of the Prime Minister's directives, to be a successful season in all directions, through the quantities marketed by farmers and farmers, or through helping farmers and delivering their dues within a specified period.
    He also pointed out that "the situation of the ration card is good, as well as the storage of wheat and the items of the food basket are good, and there is nothing to worry about in the process of securing foodstuffs for citizens in the next year."
    The minister continued by saying, "The Ministry of Commerce faced the global food crisis and the high prices of grains and foodstuffs through technical and administrative measures that managed to remove Iraq from the specter of harm to its citizens."
    Iraq adopted the ration card system following the issuance of UN Security Council Resolution No. 661 of August 6, 1990, imposing an economic blockade on the country as a result of Saddam Hussein's invasion of Kuwait.
    The ration card went through different stages between the flourishing and multiplicity of its items after the United Nations agreement with Iraq, the so-called oil for food and medicine, at the end of 1996, and the reduction of items and the decline of its types with the end of the agreement and the fall of Saddam Hussein's regime in 2003.
