Shafaq News/ The Iraqi Minister of Immigration pledged, on Thursday, to return all displaced Iraqis, including the displaced from Jurf Al-Sakhar area in Babil Governorate, within 6 months, stressing that this file should be removed from "political bidding".

The Minister of Migration and Displacement, Evan Faeq, said during a press conference held today, at the ministry's building in Baghdad, and was attended by Shafaq News agency, that the government program approved by the Council of Ministers stipulates that the displaced be returned to their areas of origin within six months, including the displaced in Jurf al-Sakhar. .
She added, "There is an important point that we have previously emphasized, which is the need to distance the file of the displaced from political bidding, and not to use this humanitarian issue in personal propaganda, especially with regard to the file of the displaced in Owaisat, Bzeibiz, and Jurf al-Sakhar."

And she indicated that "during a short period of time, a meeting was held with the political forces that gave prior approval to return the displaced to Jurf al-Sakhar by political agreement."

She said, "About 500-700 families are ready and security-checked. Their names have been handed over to the concerned authorities in order to be returned to Jurf al-Sakhar."

"We are now waiting for the green light from the security services to return the families to their areas of origin, and this completes the ministry's work to define us," she stressed.

And she indicated, "The government's approach is to end the file of the displaced," noting that "the majority of the camps are located in the Kurdistan Region."
She added that "there is high coordination between the federal government and the region to merge the camps and return the displaced," stressing that "there are great challenges that do not fall on the Ministry of Immigration to return the displaced, as appropriate conditions must be provided for their return to their areas of origin, including infrastructure, services and security in the areas of origin of the displaced." .
And she noted that her ministry had "a study for the rehabilitation, rehabilitation and integration of the displaced returning from Al-Hol camp, as well as a study regarding illegal immigration and how to raise awareness through the ministry in coordination with the concerned institutions," stressing, "We have high coordination with the Ministry of Interior regarding the issuance of identification papers for all those who lost them who are now inside and outside displaced persons camps.
Regarding the Iraqis displaced outside the country, she explained that "there are more than 300 families displaced in Turkey," noting, "Approvals are now being obtained for their return, but there are some obstacles in order to conduct a security and legal audit to return them to Iraq."
The minister pointed out that "some international organizations are interfering in the process of closing the camps, and are calling for careful repatriation of the displaced to their areas."
The Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, Muhammad al-Halbousi, affirms that the return of the displaced to Jurf al-Sakhar will only be achieved through state control of the area and its removal from the control of the armed factions.
Al-Halbousi said during a television interview that within the political agreement is the return of the displaced and Jurf al-Sakhar, which is now a camp for some armed factions, and no one is able to enter it.
He also said that the state will not be able to return the displaced except by returning the orchards in Al-Jurf to the authority of the state.
It is noteworthy that the Babil Governorate Council, in 2017, voted by majority on a decision to file lawsuits against any partisan or political party calling for the return of the displaced from Jurf al-Sakhar district, north of the governorate.
At the time, Falah Abdul Karim, the representative of the governorate, revealed that more than five thousand arrest warrants had been issued against people in Jurf al-Sakhr on charges of belonging to ISIS, and various other crimes.
ISIS took control of Jurf al-Sakhar in 2014, prompting the majority of the district's residents to flee towards safer areas.
Although the district was recaptured a few months after the grip of the organization, the forces that control the area prevent the residents from returning to their homes, and they are mostly from the Popular Mobilization factions.
The district became known as one of the depopulated areas.
