Nabil Jassim: The need to formulate a new discourse to regulate public broadcasting

The head of the Iraqi Media Network, Dr. Nabil Jassim, called for updating, changing, and reconsidering the general system of the usual classic broadcasting in terms of style, means, equipment, and the level of discourse.
This came during the work of the first scientific conference, which bore the slogan (Public Broadcasting, Opportunities and Challenges) and was organized by the Iraqi Media Network and the Media and Communications Authority in coordination with the University College of Mesopotamia.
Jassim said during the opening ceremony, which was attended by "Al-Sabah": The conference, which will last for two days and discuss 14 papers, includes four axes: public broadcasting and public opinion-making, public broadcasting reality and ways to rise, public broadcasting and social networking sites, communication technology and the future of visual media.
And he indicated that the conference aims to crystallize the solid foundations for dealing with public broadcasting opportunities at this critical stage in the history of media, and by adopting research prepared by media experts and university professors, noting that the conference will become an annual tradition to discuss the reality of media and public broadcasting, which for years has been facing challenges and competition from the media. not traditional.
Jassim added that social media has begun to capture the attention of a large part of the audience and attract wide segments, not only in Iraq but also in the whole world, which necessitates updating, changing and reconsidering the general system of the usual classic broadcasting in terms of style, means, equipment and the level of discourse.
He stressed that one of the most important priorities of the Iraqi Media Network is to consolidate the responsible official discourse to attract all segments of Iraqi society and its components, indicating that it was keen to follow a methodical and rapid pace, translated by its presentation of a balanced and responsible media material, which approached the Iraqi citizen in all its categories, to represent the state media.
For her part, Professor of Media at the University of Baghdad, Dr. Siham Al-Shujairi, mentioned during her research (live broadcast journalism and its reflection on public opinion) that live broadcast is a double-edged sword, as it conveys facts and facts as they are without any partiality, warning that the convening of the conference comes to keep pace with modern technologies and intelligence.
