Baghdad / Muhammad Muhi al-Musawi
At four o'clock in the afternoon, the phone of Ruwaida Ahmed, 34 years old, an employee at the Ministry of Education, rang from an unidentified number, informing her that the loan (advance) that she had applied for from Al-Rafidain Bank had been accepted, and she only had to give some personal information, the number of the electronic exchange card “Master Card”. card, the password, the phone number to which the card is linked, and other information such as her full name and date of birth.
Ruwaida told (Al-Mada) that she “applied earlier to a request to obtain the loan, and for this reason she worked to answer all the questions asked by the caller, which consisted of complete personal information, in addition to the serial number of the electronic payment card for the salary, in addition to its password.”
She added, "He informed her that a short message will reach her on her phone number (SMS), and she must tell him the four numbers that will reach her." To wait only two days and she can go to any financial exchange office.”
And she indicated that "after two days, she received notifications on the mobile phone application that her salary had been disbursed by the bank, but moments later, other notifications came to the phone indicating that the salary was received in the form of payments, and each payment included 399 thousand Iraqi dinars."
And she noted that “she went to the salary exchange offices and was told that her account was empty of any amounts, and it had been received in full earlier, and she mentioned when contacting the (Ki Card) company, she also confirmed that the amount had been disbursed and that she had been defrauded by people to whom she had handed it.” This is why they took advantage of the information and spent the salary.”
fake links
While the employee at the Ministry of Health, Kazem Abu Ragheef, 42 years old, stated that he had received a message via the (Viber) application containing incorrect information about his salary details, and at the end of the message there is an electronic link indicating that if there is any incorrect information in the salary, the link can be accessed And follow the steps that will appear to him successively in the link. And he indicated that he worked on entering the link and following all the steps that were asked of him, namely the personal information, the full name, date of birth, the serial number of the exchange card, in addition to the card's password.
He stated that after about a week, notifications arrived on the mobile application that his money had been transferred to another account. At first, he thought that the notifications meant that the money had arrived in his account, but when he went to receive it from the retirees’ salary exchange offices, he was told that an advance had been paid to him ( loan) at the beginning and then it was transferred to an account other than his account.
Free Umrah
While the retiree, Taha Jawad Hassouni, 65, dreamed of going to the Sacred House of God for Umrah or Hajj, when a message arrived on the Facebook application congratulating him on his victory by going for a free Umrah to the Holy Land, because he entered a lottery that included a number of people, and he was very lucky with this victory.
Hassouni told (Al-Mada) that “the joy was great, and that what he wished for had been achieved for free, and that the Umrah will be soon, indicating that he clicked on the link that contains information that must be submitted in order to complete the Umrah requirements, and that the amount allocated for that will be electronically transferred to a card The electronic payment that he owns, and he only has to enter the information for that,” indicating that he “worked to complete all the requirements, and after completing them, he received a confirmation message indicating that the process has been completed, and during the current week the amount will reach him, and he only has to book through any of the Umrah companies.” And Hajj to go to Umrah.”
He noted that "after nearly two weeks, when the salaries of the retirees were released, he went to the exchange offices, and was surprised that all the salaries had been withdrawn and that his balance in the bank was equal to zero!"
Hassouni called on "all retirees or employees not to be drawn into these false rewards that are being promoted on the Internet."
Government warning
For its part, Al-Rafidain Bank called on employees and retirees who hold electronic payment cards from the bank to exercise caution and not give any data related to their cards (Master Card) or the card's PIN number to anyone claiming to be associated with any party or the bank, in order to avoid falling into the trap of fraud and theft of the card. Credit and unauthorized use of that card account by sending e-mails or text messages or calling the card holder and asking him to provide them with their card numbers and accounts in order to withdraw their balances in those cards. And the bank stressed that “this matter applies to all banks,” calling at the same time “its customers not to copy, photocopy, or trade their own electronic cards in order to reduce the process of piracy by the weak of spirit.”
