Today, Thursday (August 24, 2023), a member of the Parliamentary Integrity Committee, Hadi al-Salami, revealed new information regarding the theft of the century, pointing out that the defendants are supported by influential political parties.
Al-Salami said in a statement received by "Baghdad Today", that "48 people were involved in facilitating the procedures for stealing the century, most of whom reside outside Iraq and are supported by influential political parties."
He added, "We are working in coordination with the Supreme Judicial Council and the concerned authorities, and the judiciary is still seeking to recover and prosecute them for plundering the Iraqi people's money."
It is reported that through the theft of the century, no less than 2.5 billion dollars were seized between September 2021 and August 2022 through 247 checks that were disbursed by five companies, then these funds were withdrawn in cash from the accounts of these companies, which Most of its owners have fled the country.
