    Economy News _ Baghdad
Today, Wednesday, the Baghdad Outskirts Municipalities Directorate of the governorate revealed a government decision to include two new categories in residential cities, while confirming that it had received more than a million applications for the new units.
The director of the municipalities of the outskirts of Baghdad, Yasser Al-Quraishi, said in an interview with the Iraqi News Agency, followed by Al-Eqtisad News, that “the government has taken many measures within the government program on the housing crisis, including new cities and distributing them into 18 categories,” pointing out that “there are one million and 300 thousand “There is a demand for new residential units, and this is a very large number.”
Al-Quraishi added, "Among the new cities in Baghdad are the cities of Al-Jawahiri, with an area of 18 thousand dunums, and the city of Ali Al-Wardi in Al-Nahrawan, with an area of 20,000 dunums," indicating that "these cities will contribute to partially solving the housing crisis."
He explained, "The municipalities of the outskirts of Baghdad, in cooperation with the Ministry of Housing, are moving towards a strategy of building new cities instead of distributing land on the outskirts of the cities, because the majority of the new lands have not yet been provided with services."
He pointed out, "The state is moving towards building new residential cities, in addition to completing the distribution of lands within the boundaries of municipal designs, and then moving outside the borders and expanding to those municipalities."
He pointed out that "the Council of Ministers issued a decision to add two new categories, namely retirees and people with cancer, among the categories included in the units in the new cities," noting that "the directorate requested a partial halt to receiving transactions until the inventory is completed and new proposals and visions are presented."
