The Human Rights Commission coordinates with the Supreme Judicial Council for the purpose of supporting the juvenile file in Nineveh Governorate.
Director of the Relations and Media Department at the National Office of the Commission for Human Rights, Sarmad Al-Badri, told Al-Sabah that the Commission’s office in Nineveh, in coordination with UNICEF, met with the Juvenile Justice Committee formed in the governorate, for the purpose of developing mechanisms for this category aimed at rehabilitating them according to the allocated priorities. Pointing out that the committee, for its part, observed a delay in accepting juveniles into schools, which requires close cooperation with the Nineveh Education Directorate to facilitate the process of accepting them coinciding with the start of the new school year, in addition to addressing the reasons that delayed this. He explained that the measures taken by the Nineveh Office in coordination with the Juvenile Justice Committee resulted in the admission of about 50 children who lacked the required documents to schools since 2018, in addition to the opening of accelerated education and literacy classes for juveniles placed in the male observation home there.
