First Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Integrity Committee, Alia Nassif, called on the Prime Minister and the regulatory authorities to intervene and put an end to the rampant corruption in refinery companies in the period after the convicted former General Director, Ayed, warning that some would agree to nominate the former director of one of the refineries as an alternative to Ayed, who is in prison.
She said in a statement today: “The former director of the Karbala refinery met the director of the Samawah refinery in a restaurant in Baghdad and told him that he was a candidate for the position of general manager of the Central Refineries Company to succeed the convict Aid, who is currently in prison, and that (H. Al-Zobaie) took his CV from him for the purpose of nominating him.” They also discussed the most corrupt contract, which is the contract for the hydrocarbon separation basins or the so-called oil spill treatment project (Contract No. 142/2022) under the pretext of carrying out environmental treatment, which until this moment the Ministry of Environment is still fining the Samawa Refinery due to poor preservation of the refinery’s environment, and this contract was concluded. During the time of (M.F.) when he was director of the Samawa Refinery under the guidance of the convict, he returned with the Heavy Engineering Equipment Company, which is just a front, and which officially contracted with the convict’s brother’s company.”
Nassif stressed “the necessity of the intervention of the Prime Minister, the Integrity Commission, the Judiciary, and the regulatory authorities to put an end to the corruption of this mafia in the post-return stage, and not to allow any corrupt person to be nominated for the position of general manager in these public companies.”
