Shafaq News/ On Sunday, a member of the Parliamentary Oil and Gas Committee, Ali Al-Lami, accused the Ministry of Oil of referring the “Nahr Bin Omar” field in Basra to an “unreliable” company based on an unannounced contract that was signed in the UAE, while the Iraqi government had announced The contract was awarded more than twenty days ago and in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Hayan Abdul Ghani, who confirmed that the contract was awarded to an Iraqi company.
Al-Lami told Shafaq News Agency, “Officials in the Ministry of Oil, unfortunately, referred the Nahr Bin Omar field located in Basra Governorate to an unreliable Iraqi company that does not have similar work in extracting gas.”
He added, “The Ministry of Oil referred the field to that unrestrained company, in an illegal manner, without an official announcement of the tender, and the way was opened for international companies to submit offers to invest in the field,” indicating that “The Ministry of Oil referred the project with special approval and it was signed in the city of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.” ".
Al-Lami pointed out that “the Parliamentary Oil and Gas Committee will host officials in the Ministry of Oil, hold negligent parties accountable, and find out the reasons for referring the project in particular without announcing it.”
Al-Lami stated that “the company to which the project was referred does not meet the conditions and that the project is worth more than one billion and 600 million dollars,” stressing that “the project is larger than the company’s executive capacity, and the project must be referred to international companies capable of implementing the contract.”
On Sunday, January 7th, Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil, Hayan Abdul Ghani, sponsored the signing ceremony of a contract for investment, development and processing of gas from the Nahr Bin Omar field with a capacity of (150) cubic meters (one million standard cubic feet per day), which is possible. To add another (150) tankers to the second phase according to the requirements and availability of the required quantities, between the South Gas Company and the Halfaya Gas Company Limited.
Abdul Ghani said in his speech during the contract signing ceremony, “This project contributes to supporting the national economy by increasing the production, investment, and processing of gas associated with oil operations, and reducing foreign imports, in addition to establishing a port for exporting liquid gas and condensates in the port of Umm Qasr. In addition to Stop harmful emissions and preserve the environment.
