    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Independent MP Amir Al-Mamouri confirmed today, Sunday (February 4, 2024), that the House of Representatives supports all government decisions that concern the sovereignty of Iraq and prevents any bombing of Iraqi lands from any party.
Al-Maamouri told “Baghdad Today” that “the House of Representatives is a legislative and supervisory body, and in accordance with these powers, it supports all government decisions that concern the sovereignty of Iraq and prevents any attack on its lands by any party, whether American or Iranian, and it is ready to take any decision regarding this to support Government procedures, given that the government has executive powers.”
He added, "The absence of the Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament does not affect the House of Representatives taking important and crucial decisions related to the sovereignty of Iraq, and the Presidency is currently ready, as are the representatives, to take and vote on parliamentary decisions that preserve the country's sovereignty, especially since he previously voted on a resolution requiring the removal of all foreign forces from Iraqi territory." ".
The US Army's Central Command reported, early on Saturday morning, that its forces launched air strikes in Iraq and Syria, targeting sites belonging to the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces west of Anbar and faction headquarters in Syria.
The command said in a statement that US military forces struck more than 85 targets with many aircraft including long-range bombers launched from the United States.
According to the statement, the air strikes used more than 125 precision-guided munitions, noting that the targets included command and control headquarters, intelligence centers, and warehouses for missiles, drones, ammunition, and logistical supplies.
US President Joe Biden had directed the military forces to strike targets in Iraq and Syria that were used by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and its militias to attack American forces, he said, stressing that although the United States was not seeking escalation in the Middle East, it would inevitably respond to those who Hurts Americans.
White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby confirmed on Saturday that the Iraqi government had already been informed before the air attacks were launched.
In turn, Iraqi government spokesman Bassem Al-Awadi denied the existence of prior coordination between Baghdad and Washington regarding the strikes directed by American forces targeting security forces’ positions in Anbar Governorate, west of the country, confirming that there were 16 casualties and 25 wounded as a result of that “aggression.”
Yesterday, Saturday, the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the temporary Chargé d'Affairs at the US Embassy in Baghdad, David Berker, to protest the bombing.
