    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
Today, Wednesday (March 27, 2024), member of the Parliamentary Economics Committee, Yasser Al-Husseini, revealed three facts related to the decision to raise the prices of “improved” fuel at Iraqi stations, while indicating that the decision targets the affluent class.
Al-Husseini confirmed in an interview with “Baghdad Today” that “there is deliberate confusion and confusion by “some” about the government’s decision yesterday evening to raise the price of improved fuel at all stations in the country,” noting that “the price of fuel used by modern and luxury cars has been raised, that is, a raise.” Support for the affluent class.
He added, “Regular fuel will remain within its price level without change, and it is what is used in transport and taxi vehicles, meaning there will be no change in transportation costs,” noting that “the government’s decision to raise the price of the improved fuel came in order to sell it at cost price, remove subsidies on it, and benefit from the financial surplus.” “With support for other items, including social care.”
He explained that "the cost of fuel subsidies is very high," adding that "fuel prices in Iraq are generally lower than neighboring countries, and removing subsidies from the developer is a natural measure that does not aim for profitability as much as it seeks to create a balance with its cost."
A member of the Parliamentary Economics Committee pointed out that “the confusion and deliberate confusion by some are the result of a lack of understanding of the real reasons,” stressing that “it will not affect the poor classes, and it is a good decision because it will lift subsidies on fuel used by well-off classes without any harm to the poor classes.”
Yesterday, Tuesday, economic expert Nabil Al-Marsoumi confirmed that raising the prices of “improved and premium” gasoline will not affect the general cost of transportation.
Al-Marsoumi said in a clarification on Facebook, followed by Baghdad Today, that “the Council of Ministers’ decision to raise the prices of improved gasoline to 850 dinars and super gasoline to 1,250 dinars per liter will not have a significant impact on the cost of transporting people and goods and the final prices of goods.” ".
He added, "There is no effect as long as the price of gasoline and gas used by most transport vehicles does not change."
Yesterday, Tuesday, the Council of Ministers decided, during its regular session, to increase the price of improved gasoline to 850 dinars, and premium gasoline to 1,250 dinars, starting next May 1.
