Shafaq News/ The Parliamentary Services Committee confirmed that the House of Representatives will discuss, in today’s session, Wednesday, the government’s decision to raise gasoline prices and the extent of its impact on citizens, indicating that the government considered users of improved and premium gasoline only as those with good income, and this is a “mistake.”
Member of the Parliamentary Services Committee, Ahmed Majeed, told Shafaq News Agency, “The Council of Ministers’ decision to raise gasoline prices comes from the fact that the government is looking for revenues to enhance financial revenues in the state treasury,” indicating that “this issue is sensitive, and this is a decision that disturbed the Iraqi street.”
He added, "When the government took the decision, it considered that those who use improved and premium gasoline are only those with good income, and this is a mistake," explaining that "imported tires, especially American imports, require a special type of fuel, and most of the cars that are imported use this fuel."
Majeed pointed out that "the House of Representatives will discuss in interventions in today's session the Council of Ministers' decision to raise gasoline prices and the extent of its impact on the citizen."
Yesterday evening, Tuesday, March 26, the Iraqi Council of Ministers decided to raise automobile fuel prices by about 30% for improved gasoline, and by 25% for “super” quality.
The Council of Ministers voted during its regular session to raise automobile fuel prices starting next May.
The Council also voted to increase the price of improved gasoline from 650,000 dinars per liter to 850 dinars per liter, and premium gasoline from 1,000 dinars to 1,250 dinars per liter, starting next May 1.
