The Deputy Prime Minister for Energy and Oil Minister Thamer Abbas Al-Ghadhban said the Iraqi-Jordanian relations witnessed a clear development after the formation of the new government.
Al-Ghadhban said in a statement to the News Agency that this development "came from the visit of President Barham Saleh to Amman on November 15, 2018, followed by the visit of the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and Finance Minister Fouad Hussein on December 19, 2018 and then the visit of King Abdullah bin Hussein to Baghdad on January 14, 2019, preceded by the official working visit of the Jordanian Prime Minister to Baghdad Omar al-Razzaz on December 29, 2018 and meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi, which resulted in a joint statement in which both sides expressed the desire to develop their relations in the political, security and economic Yeh, followed by a high-level delegation's visit to Baghdad, headed by Deputy Prime Minister of Jordan Rajai Muasher to finalize the second of this February for the meeting agreed upon by the two sides. "
He pointed out that "all this comes within the framework of the development of fraternal relations between the two countries," adding that "the meetings resulted in the signing of a comprehensive record of the implementation of what was agreed upon in the joint statement, which dealt with areas of cooperation in several sectors, including the industry and trade sector, Necessary for the establishment of a joint industrial zone on the border. "
In the transport sector, the two sides agreed to open the border crossings and the movement of trucks from the source to the site in the other country without unloading at the border. The Jordanian authorities have reduced the fees on goods from Aqaba to Iraq by 75%, in addition to cooperation between Iraqi Airways and Royal Jordanian, either in the financial sector, the two sides agreed to liquidate the outstanding issues. "
He added that "for the energy sector, the discussions dealt with more than one axis, including discussing the issue of the electric connection between the two countries and activating the previous agreement between the two countries in 2006 to supply Jordan with an average of 10 thousand barrels per day of Kirkuk oil by tankers, The Iraqi oil from Rumaila to the port of Aqaba, which has been working for years, "pointing out that" the agricultural sector had a share of researchers where the two sides agreed to exchange goods and other areas of cooperation. "
As for the Kingdom's request to supply Iraqi crude oil from Kirkuk to Zarqa refinery in Jordan, the minister explained that "this is not new. Iraq used to supply Jordan with crude oil from Kirkuk oil and Basra oil. Iraq is a producer and exporter of oil, Jordan is a consumer country, A memorandum of understanding was signed on 18/8/2006 to supply Jordan with Kirkuk crude oil transported by land in tanks at a price equivalent to the price of Brent crude oil minus (18) eighteen dollars covering the cost of transportation between Kirkuk and Zarqa, with differences in the quality of Kirkuk crude oil for crude oil Brent, the MoU was signed at the time By the prime ministers of both countries. "
"As for the new memorandum signed between the two sides on February 2, 2019, it is a replica of the previous memorandum except that the price equation is the best two dollars instead of (18) dollars was agreed (16) dollars, Means that Iraq will sell the barrel to Jordan at (50) dollars if the price of Brent oil (66) dollars and not by (18 or 16) as envisaged by some, and the oil refinery in Zarqa bear the cost of transporting oil from Baiji to Zarqa in Jordan, Taking into account the difference in the quality of crude oil exported from Brent oil. "
"It is certain that this comprehensive agreement is the result of the political understandings between the two countries at the highest levels to reflect their common desire to develop relations between the two peoples and brotherly countries and their determination to fight terrorism and transform the region into a region of security and peace for the benefit of the two brotherly peoples, Iraq is not only with Jordan but with all neighboring countries. "
He pointed out that "the reopening of the border crossings and the increase in economic activity between the two countries will generate significant and growing gains for them, including the sovereignty of security and stability in the western region of Iraq to be an oppressor of terrorism and an environment conducive to work, investment and development, which in itself is an important treasure of the many benefits of economic cooperation Between neighboring countries.
