Shafaq News/ Today, Friday, the Union of Farmers' Associations in Iraq directed a request to the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kazemi, to intervene urgently after the death of large numbers of livestock, pointing to the lack of response from the concerned authorities to calls to provide the necessary fodder for breeders.
The head of the union, Hassan Al-Tamimi, told Shafaq News Agency, "Livestock in Iraq suffers from a shortage of feed and medicines, which has led to the death of large numbers of livestock, especially in the governorates of Karbala, Babil, Muthanna and Dhi Qar."
Al-Tamimi added, "Accordingly, we sent several communications to demand the provision of the necessary fodder to the breeders, but there was no response to these calls, either from the government or from the relevant ministries, until livestock became in great danger threatening their existence."
The head of the union pointed out that "the extinction of livestock in the country, will lead to a major humanitarian disaster, and will negatively affect the Iraqi economy, as the country will resort to imports to meet its needs of livestock."
Al-Tamimi continued, "Therefore, we constantly stress the need to pay attention to livestock, and for the relevant ministries and the Council of Ministers to approve a law or an emergency grant in order to buy feed and distribute it to breeders, as soon as possible."
Al-Tamimi concluded his speech by saying: "I call on the Prime Minister to intervene urgently, in order to provide fodder to livestock breeders in the affected governorates, which were affected by drought as a result of the scarcity of water there."
