Representative of the State of Law coalition, Alia Nassif, warned against passing the contract to build a hydroelectric station for the bankrupt British Baywater Company, under pressure from British authorities and with the blessing of the government, stressing that the caretaker government has no right to contract and dispose of public money.
And she said in a statement today: “We had previously warned more than a year ago of attempts by the bankrupt Baywater Company to conclude contracts for fake projects (including Basra water desalination) and then flee under the pretext of poor security conditions, and we published several statements in this regard on March 8, 2021 and on March 11, 2021 on April 4, 2021, and on May 21, 2021, we discussed the role of British government agencies in pressuring in this direction, such as the role of Ambassador Stephen Hickey and Baroness Emma Nicholson, and then it became clear recently that the owner of this company is the father of British Minister Nazim Al-Zahawi.”
Nassif indicated: “A very important person in the Iraqi government held a session yesterday to sign the establishment of an electric power station with a capacity of 3000 megawatts and the production of sweetened water as a by-product from the station, with an amount of one million and 250 thousand cubic meters per day, and the completion period is 24 months, and the important person contacted the governor of Basra and prevented it From signing the contract with the Chinese company Shanghai to please Britain.”
Nassif stressed: “The caretaker government does not have the right to contract on projects, and the supervisory authorities must speed up preventing them from passing the contract before it is too late because there are parties in the current government that are racing against time with the aim of concluding contracts for (financial and political) reasons.”
